The Worst Day In A Man’s Life: The Day God Stops Speaking to Him

God stopped speaking to Adam and Eve after they disobeyed Him in the garden.

God stopped speaking to Abraham for 13 years (Genesis 16:16,17:1).

The story of Saul (1 Samuel 28:1-25)

Saul started very well—humble, hard-working.  He went after his father’s lost sheep.  But then he began to turn into something else—there was one man through whom God spoke to Him.  There is a calling on your life to follow God.  There continues to be a call to go deeper—Saul answered.  But he lost reverence for God.  Do you have someone in your life through whom God is speaking?  Saul became one to whom God no longer spoke.  Even to this day, Israel wins and loses wars depending on their attitude toward God.  What do you do when God won’t speak to you?

Samuel grieved over Saul.  Somewhere in Saul’s heart, he knew it.  The point where God gives up is the worst day in a person’s life.  How did Saul get there?

  • Saul became proud.  He cared about what people thought.  He wanted to be honored in front of the people. Do you have friends whose opinions lead you?  You will do the things that please the opinions of people who are closest to you.
  • Saul was self-righteous.  He offered a sacrifice without Samuel there.  He violated the holy boundary between the king and priest.
  • He started taking things into His own hands—God did not speak to Abraham, so he took things into his own hands with Hagar.

The happiest life a person can live is according to God’s voice.  But God had departed.  Do not take God’s word for granted, obey what you read!  There are some people who are taking God for granted.  They are asking themselves, “Will I continue to walk with Jesus in this way?”  And I want to ask God “Lord, make them choose You!”

How the mighty have fallen—spiritually.  If someone falls into sin, it could happen to anybody.  You should genuinely repent.  Some don’t repent, and that is pride.  There is beginning a famine of God’s word today.  (Revelation 3:7-13)
